Factory hardware platform

Plug in almost any roaster. Start logging.

Factory is a production multi-device roast telemetry platform. It speaks the connections your equipment already uses, so you connect the roaster, see live temperatures, and capture the roast. No per-machine software. No lock-in. No vendor gatekeeper.

Factory device connection and live telemetry screen

Your machine probably already speaks one of these.

Roasters and temperature controllers expose data over a handful of common transports. Factory talks to all of them, so the question is rarely can it connect. It is usually which cable do I have. Pick a transport, point Factory at it, and the data flows.

Wired

USB and serial

The most common path on the bench. Factory enumerates serial ports on launch and reads the framing your controller sends.

  • USB CDC
  • FTDI
  • Arduino / TC4-style
  • RS232
  • RS485

Network

Ethernet and Wi-Fi

Controllers and PLCs that publish over the network. Factory polls, subscribes, or listens, whichever your hardware offers.

  • Raw TCP
  • MODBUS TCP
  • HTTP / REST polling
  • WebSocket
  • MQTT
  • UDP

Wireless

Bluetooth and ESP modules

Cable-free probes and DIY controllers. Factory pairs with classic and low-energy Bluetooth and the popular ESP boards.

  • Bluetooth Classic SPP
  • BLE GATT
  • ESP32 controllers
  • ESP8266 controllers

Industrial

MODBUS RTU

The industrial standard on countless commercial roasters. Map the registers once and Factory reads them every sample.

  • MODBUS RTU
  • Register maps
  • Holding / input registers

A machine profile, not a software update.

Every roaster Factory supports is described by a reusable profile: probe-to-channel mapping for bean and environment temperature, register maps, calibration, and naming. When a new machine comes along it is supported by a profile someone writes once, not by waiting for a release.

  • One portable JSON profile per roaster, with BT and ET mapping and register layout.
  • Save, duplicate, and tune profiles without touching another machine's setup.
  • Import and export profiles so a new machine is supported in minutes.
  • Share a working profile with peers running the same roaster.

Plug-and-play for most. Deep control for power users.

Connect a common device and Factory auto-detects it and uses sensible defaults, so the typical roastery never opens a settings screen. When you need to go deeper, every parameter is exposed and editable.

Plug-and-play

Connect, confirm, roast. Factory scans transports on launch, recognises common devices, and applies just-works defaults.

  • Auto-detect on connect with no manual configuration.
  • Sensible defaults for the most common roasters and probes.
  • Live values appear immediately so you know it worked.
  • One confirm step, then you are capturing.

Advanced

Full manual control for unusual hardware and demanding setups, tucked behind progressive disclosure so it never clutters the simple path.

  • Serial baud, parity, and framing control.
  • MODBUS register, byte, and word order configuration.
  • Channel mapping and probe types: K, J, T, PT100, PT1000, IR.
  • Calibration offset and slope, smoothing, and rate-of-rise window.

Built to survive a real roast day.

A roastery floor is hot, noisy, and electrically busy. Factory assumes connections will hiccup and protects the roast anyway. A brief disconnect mid-batch is a non-event, not a lost roast.

  • Automatic reconnect and hot-plug, so a bumped cable recovers on its own.
  • Stale-data detection flags a probe that has gone quiet.
  • Malformed packets are rejected safely instead of corrupting the curve.
  • Multiple devices captured at once, with roast logging preserved through brief disconnects.

Live data the moment a device connects.

You do not have to start a roast to know the connection is good. The live data panel shows real-time readings as soon as Factory is talking to the hardware, so you verify everything before the beans go in.

  • Bean and environment temperature streaming in real time.
  • Gas and airflow values where the controller exposes them.
  • Rate of rise computed and shown live.
  • Visible before the roast starts, so a bad probe is caught early.

Full diagnostics when you need to look under the hood.

When a device misbehaves you should not have to guess. Factory ships a complete diagnostics view so you can see exactly what the hardware is sending and how healthy the link is.

  • Live raw packet monitor with a parsed preview beside it.
  • Sample rate, packet loss, and reconnect count at a glance.
  • Last error and overall connection health, in plain language.
  • Exportable debug logs to share when you need a hand.

No roaster yet? The simulator is a first-class device.

Factory includes a built-in simulator as a real connector, not a demo mode bolted on. Anyone can install Factory, connect the simulator, and walk a full roast end to end with zero hardware. It is the fastest way to evaluate Factory before a cable is anywhere near it.

Open and future-proof

Open, configurable, and yours to extend.

Factory is part of the platform you already pay for. There are no per-machine fees and no connector you have to unlock. Because connectivity is profile-driven and transport-based, it keeps growing without forcing an upgrade.

  • No per-machine fees and no locked connectors.
  • Profile-driven support, so new machines arrive without a release.
  • Extensible toward OPC-UA, CAN, and vendor SDKs.
  • A cloud relay path on the roadmap for remote and multi-site setups.

Connect your roaster this afternoon.

Download Factory, start with the simulator, then plug in the real machine when you are ready. No hardware required to begin.
